Pavement Marking Issues

Many things can cause low visibility of pavement markings, making these important traffic control devices invisible to customers, tenants and other motorists and leading to potentially dangerous outcomes.

Ghosting

Ghosting occurs when older parking lot markings show up under new ones because a different stencil was used, causing a shadowing effect. To avoid ghosting, we recommend blacking-out old parking lot markings before repainting or seal coating a parking lot.

Fading

Over time, pavement markings may fade and need re-striping. This cannot be prevented, and should be taken care of as soon as possible.

Discolored pavement markings

If pavement markings are applied after a seal coat, they can bleed and become discolored if the seal coat has not cured. Traffic can also track seal coat on to fresh pavement markings.
